Spiral galaxy NGC 2566, located 76 million light-years away in the constellation Puppis, is close enough to offer a detailed look into its structure. Captured by Webb’s Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI), this image reveals thick clouds of interstellar dust threaded throughout the galaxy, along with its compact, luminous core.

Because of its proximity, NGC 2566 is an ideal subject for studying the complex interplay between stars, gas, and dust. This image of NGC 2566 was collected as part of an observing program (#3707) dedicated to understanding nearby star-forming galaxies. NGC 2566 is just one of the 55 galaxies in the local Universe examined by Webb for this program.
