Displayed is a segment of M92, a cluster comprised of thousands of stars located 27,000 light-years away in our Milky Way.
M92 is a classic target for studying stellar evolution, thanks to the fact that it is close enough that Webb can single out individual stars as well as it contains some of the oldest stars found in the Milky Way. Findings from M92 contribute to our understanding of ancient stars in the early universe.
Imaging this cluster showcases Webb's capabilities - testing its precision by measuring closely packed stars, along with its ability to efficiently observe small, faint stars in minimal time.
